A cold beer, a fascinating museum and some great characters to meet – what’s not to like?
Heading towards the Southern Flinders Ranges and looking for a memorable rest stop?
Then drop by the Barbed Wire Pub in Spalding – a hotel that offers something a little different. When you visit you’ll see why we call it the Barbed Wire Pub – we have one of the largest barbed wire collections in Australia on display in our museum. You’ll be amazed by the sheer number of varieties of barbed wire in our museum, for not only agricultural purposes but also wartime. You will also see a collection of fencing droppers and a huge range of fencing tools – many of which are hand made by farmers of years gone by.
Take a break in Spalding
If you’re just after a short break before the long drive into the Northern Flinders Ranges, come and recharge at the pub with a coffee or some takeaway food. Once you’re revitalised, give your legs a stretch by taking a stroll through our barbed wire museum; learn a little about agricultural history in South Australia before getting back into your vehicle and continuing your journey.
If you’re going to arrive in Spalding after dark, start fresh the next day and make use of our comfortable accommodation. We have eight hotel rooms and can cater for families, coach groups, motorcycle groups as well as travellers heading up the Mawson Trail.
If you’re heading north from the Clare Valley, you’ll appreciate the fact that Spalding really is The Gateway to the Outback. Spalding offers a sprawling landscape with rolling hills, wind turbines rotating silently on the horizon and tranquillity you’d expect from an outback country town.
So feel free to browse our website to learn more about the Barbed Wire Pub before making your visit. Look forward to meeting you soon – come and get hooked up!
